Scent is the language of emotions—it works faster than words and more delicately than touch. But is every scent suitable for little ones? Here's a guide to safe aromatherapy for children, created by Aroma Łysoń .

🌿 What exactly are essential oils?

Essential oils are concentrated plant essences—they contain their aromatic, volatile compounds, which affect both the body and emotions. For children, concentration and potency are crucial.

That's why it's crucial to choose pure, certified organic oils , such as those in the Aroma Łysoń collection. Each of our oils is chemotyped (HECT, HBBBD), meaning it has been thoroughly tested for its composition and safety—especially important when using aromatherapy for children.

🕊️ Rule number one – less is more

Children's nervous and immune systems are still developing. Therefore, aromatherapy for toddlers must be gentle and diluted . We do not apply oils directly to the skin (except for exceptionally gentle and diluted ones), do not administer them orally, and do not diffuse them extensively in small rooms.

Safe forms of use:

  • Diffusion – 1–2 drops of oil in a diffuser with water (e.g. Aroma Diffuser SPA-03 ).
  • Aromatic bath – 1 drop previously dissolved in a carrier oil (e.g. almond oil).
  • Roll-on – a delicate, ready-made mixture (e.g. 1 drop of oil per 10 ml of base, for spot application).

🌼 Which essential oils are safe for children?

Not every scent is suitable. Some oils, despite their natural origins, can be too strong. Below you'll find a list of those that are safe and recommended .

  • Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) – calms, facilitates falling asleep, relieves colic and tension.

⚠️ What to avoid in children's aromatherapy

Some oils, although natural, may be too intense for children and cause irritation, coughing or allergic reactions.

🚫 Avoid:

  • Oils containing menthol or camphor (e.g. peppermint, camphor, eucalyptus globulus).
  • Cinnamon, cloves, oregano, rosemary CT camphor – strongly warming.
  • Sage and hyssop – may have neurotoxic effects in children.

🌙 Evening aromatherapy for the little ones

Evening is the perfect time for a gentle fragrance ritual. A few drops of lavender or chamomile in a diffuser can help your child calm down, feel safe, and drift off to a peaceful sleep.

🌿 Lavender Sleep Ritual:
Fill the diffuser with water and add 1 drop of lavender oil. Turn on the dim light and let the fragrance fill the room for 15 minutes before bedtime. Then turn off the diffuser and enjoy your child's peaceful sleep.
